Why Orthopaedic Surgery May Not be the Solution

An ageing society with its newfound appreciation for longevity has thrusted orthopaedic injuries to the front and centre of medical care. Patient’s consultations increasingly revolve around higher expectations, less invasive treatment strategies and a knowledge threshold that is constantly evolving. Orthopaedic care today, more than ever before, aims to offer every patient the entire gamut of therapeutic interventions strongly rooted in clinical research. Whilst operative modalities have evolved in leaps and bounds, so has non-operative treatment modalities. Further, non-operative intervention offers the inherent advantage of a quicker recovery, potential for repeated intervention and finally does not burn any bridges so far as charting the treatment pathway is concerned. In this talk, Dr. Gowreeson Thevendran will summarize the recent movers and shakers in the world of non-operative orthopaedic care, the evidence to support their emergence and finally a glimpse of what future holistic orthopaedic care will look like.
