Synopsis:
This two-day conference in July 2026 will focus on updates in chronic metabolic illness management. In recent years, we have seen the launch of new drugs like SGLT2-inhibitors, GLP1-agonists, GIP analogues and PCK9 inhibitors. These medications enlarge the armamentarium available to the primary care physician for more effective control of diabetes, hyperlipidemia and weight. This further unlocks the ability to reduce cardiovascular and renal adverse events.

  • While there has been widespread inclusion of these new medicines in many physicians’ regular prescribing habits, some physicians may be remain hesitant or conservative in their chronic disease management. This conference hopes to continue the journey of making these new medicine classes understandable and familiar to the primary care physician, thus reducing obstacles to their usage and raising the standards of primary care.

  • This year, we recognise that in addition to the classic metabolic chronic diseases, long-term skin and bone conditions also contribute to the overall chronic disease burden worldwide. Thus, the second conference day’s thrust is to present updates in management of chronic skin/nail and bone conditions.

  • Chronic skin and nail conditions, even though seldom causing complications as severe as chronic metabolic diseases, do severely impact the quality of life of patients. The long-term clinical challenge is to use medications which are sufficiently effective without causing long-term side effects. Fortunately, there are new treatment options available for the primary care physician.

  • The chronic condition of low bone mineral density (LBMD), including osteoporosis and osteopenia deserves special mention not only because of its huge disease burden (200 million people worldwide are affected and this number is growing due to aging populations), but also because of the way osteoporosis is frequently concealed until a major event such as a fracture or a fall occurs. Given that osteoporosis is “out of sight, out of mind”, public awareness of new effective treatment measures may be lagging. Thus, conference day two hopes to update primary care providers with new osteoporosis treatment options so that our patients may regain lost time.
